The state will order the translation of over 20,000 pages of acquis communautaire from the Association of Estonian Translation Companies
The Consortium of the Association of Estonian Translation Companies (AETC), which is comprised of seven members, has just won a major international tender for the translation of legal documents of the European Union (EU) into Estonian. Within the framework of the project, the AETC will translate more than 20,000 pages of acquis communautaire - EU directives, ECJ rulings, and guidelines of the ECB, among other documents - in half a year. The total worth of the project is over 7.2 million EEK (463,000 EUR).
The contract with the Government of Estonia was signed by the leader of the consortium, Interlex Translation Bureau, on 10 February. The customer and coordinator of translations is the Estonian Legal Language Centre and the translations will be published in a special edition of the Official Journal of the European Union.
This time, the scope of translation amounts to an imposing figure of 20,130 pages, rendering the daily translation scope to be 161 translated and revised pages. All in all, a staff of over 40 people - translators, revisers, technical revisers and coordinating project managers - is involved with the translations.
The Consortium of the AETC is comprised of the following translation bureaus: Interlex, A&A Lingua, Dussan, Eurologos-Tallinn/Galandrex, Luisa, Wiedemanni and the Technical Translation Centre.
Last year, approximately 10,000 pages of legal documents were translated by the AETC member bureaus within the framework of the tender, and its extension, which was won last year under a PHARE project.
The Association of Estonian Translation Companies was established in 2000 with the aim of bringing the translation service offered in the Estonian market on par with what is provided in Europe. One of the goals of the Association is to join forces for carrying out extensive translation projects (incl. major EU projects).
