On 24 August 2000, representatives from Estonian translation agencies met in Tallinn and signed a joint declaration recognising the need to form an association of translation companies. This led to the founding in 2001 of the Association of Estonian Translation Companies (AETC), which currently has eight full members and one associate member. Any company providing translation services in Estonia can become a member so long as they adhere to the AETC’s articles of association and code of conduct and fulfil the other requirements set by the association.
By 2006, the AETC had made significant progress towards achieving its goals: a code of conduct and quality standards had been adopted, standard terms and conditions governing the provision of translation services devised, and the relevant vocabulary defined.
Joint efforts have resulted in the translation of tens of thousands of pages of EU directives and materials, in the publication of educational articles in the media, in the organisation of association-based training courses for the wider introduction of translation software and in broad-ranging cooperation with European colleagues.
From 2004-2023 the AETC was a member of the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies (EUATC). It withdrew from the union in 2023 in protest at Russia’s continued membership of the EUATC..
When you e-mail a query or translation request to the AETC at , it reaches all members and associate members and each company responds personally.
